Why so many aviation accidents?
In the first quarter of 2025, the U.S. experienced over 170 aviation accidents, including 22 fatalities, due to increased air traffic, aging infrastructure, a surge in new pilots, and inadequate risk management tools, as highlighted by incidents like the mid-air collision over the Potomac River and the Delta Connection crash in Toronto. Aviation industry veteran Michael McCready advocates for proactive risk management systems, such as AerLogics' ION platform, which integrates real-time flight data, weather conditions, and communication to identify and mitigate risks before they lead to accidents, emphasizing the urgent need to modernize the National Airspace System to prevent future tragedies.
